Hi.
I have a slightly wordy and un-fancy update for you.
The Too Long Didn't Read Version: Flooding, shipping, and tariffs suck.
The Too Long Didn't Read Version: Flooding, shipping, and tariffs suck.
First, my heart goes out to everyone affected by the flooding here in Cincy and across the US. For the second time this year, the Ohio River flows under Small Intern's school (it was built on stilts), and the teachers, staff, and students are displaced. Still, it's a minor inconvenience compared to the many people who have lost property and homes.
Second, I want to apologize to anyone who has experienced shipping delays with their orders. Frankly, USPS is a mess. I could rant for hours about the politics of why this is happening, but this is not the place. Just know that I am always working to get your orders out quickly, and I am just as frustrated as you when your delivery goes awry.
Finally, the big one- Tariffs. Honestly, I don't know how this is going to shake out.
The OSC does not directly import ingredients, but our suppliers do. Many of our raw ingredients cannot be produced in the US. For example, shea trees only exist in parts of Africa, and much of the US does not have the right climate for cocoa, coconut, and olive trees.
Before the tariffs were enacted, I stocked up on supplies. I am keeping an eye on prices and have put plans for growth and expansion on hold. I promise you I will do everything I can to avoid raising prices. We are all feeling the squeeze, and I know it's already a stretch to shop from The OSC when big box stores are cheaper. I will not raise prices until I have absolutely no choice. I promise to be transparent and give a heads-up before enacting any changes.
Thank you so much for sticking with me and small business in general. Times are scary for everyone but the billionaires. I appreciate you.
Be Gentle with Yourself,
Laura
